Western Pilot Car Operators: Beginning A New Year

The United Highway Carriers Association (UHCA) has its very own pilot car organization. Western Pilot Car Operators, known as WPCO, this elite group of independent escorts is professional, legal, well-trained and ready for action.

Chairman Eugene Cook and Vice Chairman Burgie Pearson head up their Board of Directors. They are assisted by Legislative Liaison Officer, Lois Rossman and Secretary/Treasurer, Robert Parker.

Their roster includes members in Northern and Southern California, Oregon and Utah, with associates in Nevada and Arizona. Membership is open to all pilot car drivers who desire to share information, road condition reports and experiences. Quarterly meetings are held in Southern California with guest speakers who share input and support.

A travel fund is maintained for a representative to attend CalTrans meetings and recent legislation efforts supported by the WPCO.

These include AB 420, the admission of manufactured housing units up to sixteen feet wide into California.

UHCA members are urged to utilize WPCO pilot cars whenever and wherever the need for safe, reliable assistance is required. They strongly support the UHCA motto: "In Unity There Is Strength And Knowledge."
